On demand
2:00 PM - 3:20 PM ET
Speaker Paul Hughes Research Director, Future of Connectedness

Paul Hughes is a Research Director leading IDC's Future of Connectedness Agenda program. He is also a key member of IDC's larger Worldwide Telecom Research Team. In this role, Paul is responsible for research related to the future innovation and transformation of how data and connectivity impact people, things, applications, and processes used by enterprises and end users.

IDC’s vision for the Future Enterprise is how organizations must operate and invest to participate in increasingly digital-first markets. It is a framework for fostering a digital-first culture, one that leverages trusted industry ecosystems, generates profitable revenue growth from empathetic customer experiences, and demonstrates an ability to adapt operating models to complex customer requirements. All of this is built on digital infrastructure and enabled by an intelligent, empowered, and well-connected workforce.

What is the Future Enterprise?

The world is moving from Digital Transformation to Digital-First. In the beginning, it was all about the transition from analog to digital. Now, the next evolution in Digital Transformation is the move to be Digital-First.

Digital is a permanent, yet dynamic fixture in this world. It applies to all entities (private, government, commercial) and asks the question, “Is there some digital-based capability/enhancement that could improve our lives and desired outcomes?

Entities and people are more connected, with greater interdependencies in a digital-first world. Entire ecosystems can intelligently leverage data to their advantage because access to digital technologies extends from individuals to organizations, and from governments to societies.

The Future Enterprise: From Digital Transformation to Digital-First

IDC’s vision for the Future Enterprise is how organizations must operate and invest to participate in increasingly digital-first markets. It is a framework for fostering a digital-first culture, one that leverages trusted industry ecosystems, generates profitable revenue growth from empathetic customer experiences, and demonstrates an ability to adapt operating models to complex customer requirements. All of this is built on digital infrastructure and enabled by an intelligent, empowered, and well-connected workforce.

We look forward to celebrating the North America best in class in each of the Future Enterprise’s digital agendas.

The Future of Connectedness

Connectivity is the common denominator in how people, things, applications, and processes interact. For consumers and organizations, increased reliance on digital engagement requires ubiquitous, reliable, and robust connectivity. But, as digital interactions continue to increase, it is clear that connectivity is not yet seamless or pervasive. Organizations will need to address this unevenness in connectivity across different environments and locations as employees and consumers increasingly expect digital experiences supported by ubiquitous, reliable and robust connectivity.

This award recognizes the organization that has transformed and digitalized processes to ensure employees (people), things (systems, devices), applications, and processes connect to enable the seamless flow of data and drive business outcomes. This transformation should highlight performance and efficiency improvements from seamless human-machine interactions, collaborative work environments, and experiences, and demonstrate an intelligent and dynamic environment unbounded by time or physical space.

IDC’s Future of Connectedness award winners demonstrated ubiquitous, reliable and robust connectivity.
