Evolving eCrime Ecosystem: Victim Profiling and Adversary Collaboration for Maximum Profit and Impact

Thursday, April 29, 4:00-5:00 PM CT

The eCrime Ecosystem is changing. In this session, Austin and Michael will talk from their first hand experiences at CrowdStrike protecting organizations and stopping breaches. Years ago, threat actors could be categorized by their capabilities and motivations. Now attackers are collaborating better than ever to maximize profitability and increase the possibility of their success. The fallout and impact on victims has never been higher. Coinminers can become ransomware. Ransomware can become data theft, extortion, or even espionage. What is access to your organization worth to a threat actor?

Austin and Michael will discuss what you need to know about this evolving eCrime Ecosystem to keep your organization and information safe.

Austin Murphy has over a decade of hands-on Computer Network Security experience in both private sector professional services as well as service in the U.S. Department of Defense. As the Vice President of Managed Services, Austin leads the team responsible for stopping breaches through managed endpoint protection.

Additionally, while at CrowdStrike, Austin spent several years as the Director of Incident Response, leading a team of experts delivering trusted advisory services and directed over 1,000 forensic investigations.

Prior to joining CrowdStrike, Austin was a Digital Forensics/Incident Response Manager in the Advanced Security Center at Ernst & Young. There, he was tasked with leading cyber breach investigations for customers as well as building or improving client security operations capabilities. Before entering the public sector, Austin was a U.S. Air Force Cyberspace Operations Officer where his primary focus was on developing tactics for the deployment of advanced computer network attack and defense capabilities.

Austin was the Distinguished Graduate of his Undergraduate Network Warfare Training class. He holds a bachelor’s degree with quantitative methods and computer science from the University of Saint Thomas. Additionally, he is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and a GIAC Certified Forensic Analyst (GCFA). Austin has been invited to speak at SANS DFIR Summit, (ISC)2 Security Congress, RSA Security Analytics Summit, and is co-author of Responding to Targeted Cyber Attacks.

Michael DeCristofaro has spent his professional career as a Computer Engineer with CrowdStrike, and at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Michael is currently a Manager on the CrowdStrike Falcon Complete Team providing 24/7/365 Managed Detection and Response to stop breaches on behalf of CrowdStrike customers.

Prior to CrowdStrike, Michael worked at NASA in a variety of roles including leading the cyber security operations of the Mission Control Center at Johnson Space Center to protect and defend NASA’s astronauts and space systems from cyber threats. Michael was also a trusted technical consultant on cyber security issues to NASA headquarter executives.

At NASA he received multiple awards for his efforts including the Johnson Space Center Director’s Innovation Award and the Flight Operations Directorate Recognition of Excellence.

Michael is a GIAC Certified Forensic Analyst (GCFA), a member of the GIAC Advisory Board, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University at University Park.

Join us after the presentation as we pop a bottle of the vintage chosen by sommelier, Rachel DeAmbrose, who will provide a brief tasting on the wine you’ll receive as a “thank you” for attending the event.

Rachel DeAmbrose attended the International Culinary Center in New York City for Intensive Sommelier Training and achieved Certified Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers. She continued training as an intern for a single vintage grower in Champagne, France before returning to the US to accept a position as a wine steward at world renowned Bern's Steak House.

Rachel was quickly promoted to Assistant Sommelier and soon after Sommelier, the first woman and youngest sommelier in Bern’s history, making her way through the vast James Beard award winning wine cellar of rare and extremely sought after vintages.
