IDC’s vision for the Future Enterprise is how organizations must operate and invest to participate in increasingly digital-first markets. It is a framework for fostering a digital-first culture, one that leverages trusted industry ecosystems, generates profitable revenue growth from empathetic customer experiences, and demonstrates an ability to adapt operating models to complex customer requirements. All of this is built on digital infrastructure and enabled by an intelligent, empowered, and well-connected workforce.

What is the Future Enterprise?

The world is moving from Digital Transformation to Digital-First. In the beginning, it was all about the transition from analog to digital. Now, the next evolution in Digital Transformation is the move to be Digital-First.

Digital is a permanent, yet dynamic fixture in this world. It applies to all entities (private, government, commercial) and asks the question, “Is there some digital-based capability/enhancement that could improve our lives and desired outcomes?

Entities and people are more connected, with greater interdependencies in a digital-first world. Entire ecosystems can intelligently leverage data to their advantage because access to digital technologies extends from individuals to organizations, and from governments to societies.

The Future Enterprise: From Digital Transformation to Digital-First

IDC’s vision for the Future Enterprise is how organizations must operate and invest to participate in increasingly digital-first markets. It is a framework for fostering a digital-first culture, one that leverages trusted industry ecosystems, generates profitable revenue growth from empathetic customer experiences, and demonstrates an ability to adapt operating models to complex customer requirements. All of this is built on digital infrastructure and enabled by an intelligent, empowered, and well-connected workforce.

We look forward to celebrating the North America best in class in each of the Future Enterprise’s digital agendas.

The Future of Operations

As IT and Operations Technology (OT) converge, companies will leverage digital capabilities to build resilient organizations with the core goal of unifying operational data streams with data from the rest of the enterprise. New converged IT/OT organizations, which IDC refers to as Digital Engineering (DE), will facilitate the transformation to Industry 4.0 and ensure that data and systems are available to support resilient decision-making. The Future of Operations framework emphasizes the importance of building infrastructure and digital capabilities to develop resilient decision-making that keeps enterprises tightly aligned with customer expectations and demands. One of the critical aspects of the evolution to resilient decision-making is ensuring all the critical data and information is ingested, contextualized, organized, and visualized for key decision makers.

This award recognizes the organization that can rethink the way operations is managed. It is a fundamental shift in the operations model to one that fosters resilient operational decision making in the context of the enterprise and supports operational strategies that are designed to support increased personalization and improved customer experience rather than centrally focused on delivering efficiency above all else.

IDC’s Best in Future of Operations award winners are recognized as digital-first organizations able to achieve operational transformation. Join us as we showcase our winning organization best practices and lessons learned.
